DAMASCUS AND SURROUNDING MASTER PLAN TO 2030

Project GLORY is set to transform Riyadh's landscape with a mega-industrial, logistics, and urban hub covering 705 sqkm to the city's south. Unlike traditional industrial areas, the goal here is to craft a vibrant city and a quality living place with integrated industrial functionality, not just worker districts within an industrial sprawl.

The Line at NEOM is controversial: a hotbed of innovation for some, and dismissed as audacious by others. Being involved on the client side, with the chance to rethink the fundamentals of successful urban planning for what could be the world's most prominent project was an irresistible intellectual challenge.

This was a politically sensitive project aimed at scoping the objectives and challenges surrounding the preparation of a non-statutory Consensual Plan (i.e.) to encourage co-ordination and balanced development across the seven Emirates, without constraining the potential of each.

The northern part of Nicosia (Cyprus) has suffered a long period of isolation since the partition of the country and the establishment of a buffer zone through the city in 1974.

The plan was commissioned by the Municipality of Nicosia and led by SKM Colin Buchanan with the support of Glafkos Constantinides, Lora Nicolaou and Mihalis Cosmas.

The plan, for the Mayoralty of Baghdad and led by Khatib & Alami, considers the urban impact of doubling the population from 6 to 12 millions by 2030, raising complex issues of land, density, infrastructure and construction supply.
